"Dona Francisca" (Joinville)

Notes: - According to letter published by ship passengers at newspaper "Kolonie-Zeitung" of Apr 01,1868, 51 people have died on board, including a child born aboard, with eleven of those immigrants whose fate was "Dona Francisca" (Joinville) and the others, which were destined for Blumenau. In Colony "Dona Francisca", along with the news of the arrival of the ship, also came on the night of December, 23 to 24, the terrible information that during trip, an outbreak of cholera had broken out on board and that of the 262 passengers, 51 had died, victims of the disease. As a result, authorities in San Francisco do Sul, did not authorize the landing of immigrants destined for Colony Dona Francisca. On December 25, the Director of Colony and Hamburg Consul, accompanied by two local doctors, have been the place to ascertain the conditions on board and take the necessary measures to the case. In the newspaper "Kolonie Zeitung", edition of December 28, 1867, the information about the state of health of migrants aboard the ship, was reported thus: "At the moment all passengers, except for one child, suffering from whooping cough, and a man who has a bad stomach, and are well prepared. More information in the next issue". So, on the 27th of that month, landed the immigrants destined for "Dona Francisca", and only on the December 30, finished unloading the luggage and other belongings of the passengers. Finally, on December 31, the bark Victoria followed to Port of Itajai (Itajahy) where he landed on the first day of January, 1868. In the same day, Acting President of City Council, warned the Chief of Police, José Fernandes da Silveira, on arrival at the port, a bark from Hamburg, with cholera patients settlers, adding that due to the large number of people who had been victims of this disease, were necessary steps in this regard. However, there is no longer any sick person on board, the landing can usually be done after the verification of this fact.

Arrival at the port of itajai: December 31, 1867. On January 1, 1868, all immigrants destined for Blumenau Colony, could follow the journey by land and by river.
